The Vicksburg Post will be Painting it Pink Sunday, Oct. 22, to raise awareness for all those impacted by breast cancer — those currently fighting the disease, the survivors and the friends and family of those who have died.

We need your help in sharing your story with us.

That Sunday’s edition of The Post will be printed on special pink newsprint and will be filled with stories highlighting the struggle of those who have fought breast cancer and survived, are battling the disease now and those who have lost a loved one to breast cancer.

“Few among us don’t have some story of how breast cancer caused someone they love to suffer. We need to focus on finding a cure for this dreadful disease,” said Jan Griffey, general manager of The Vicksburg Post.

“Sharing the stories of Vicksburg residents who are battling or have battled the disease is one way to help those who may be going through some of the same things. None of us are alone in this battle.”

The special pink edition is printed every year in October to highlight the hard fought battles members of the community have waged or are continuing to wage against the disease and encourage everyone to get tested, schedule mammograms and support those who have been impacted.

As part of the special edition, The Vicksburg Post is looking to share the stories of all those impacted by the disease, either directly through your own fight or as a participant in a friend or family members’. Community members are urged to share their breast cancer stories — or the story of someone they know — with readers of The Vicksburg Post.

Stories should be no longer than 400 words and should be emailed to Post reporter Brandon O’Connor by end of day on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Brandon.OConnor@vicksburgpost.com.

The author should include a photo of himself or herself or the person whose story they are sharing.

Please call O’Connor at 601-636-4545, ext. 1307, if you have questions.
