A Vicksburg man was killed when the GMC Hummer he was driving went off a steep embankment on U.S. 80 near Newman Road and rolled.

The wreck occurred about 8 p.m. Friday.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Eric Henry said Johnny Earl McCool, 64, was traveling westbound and made a U-turn in the roadway to travel back east. Once the SUV made the U-turn, the tires on its right side dropped off the embankment and the vehicle overturned several times, killing him.

He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the accident report.
