WC alumni softball game

Warren Central’s softball program will honor its 40th anniversary by playing an alumni game on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lucy Young Field. All former players are invited to attend and play.

There is a $25 registration fee, which includes a T-shirt. Players are asked to wear black bottoms for the game. Checks can be made payable to the WC Girls Softball Booster Club, and mailed to Lady Vikes Softball; P.O. Box 820734; Vicksburg, MS 39182.

Chill in the Hills

Registration is now open for the 10th annual Chill in the Hills run and walk. The 10K run, 5K walk and 1-mile fun run is scheduled for Jan. 13, at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Vicksburg. The registration fee is $25, and includes an anniversary edition T-shirt. The 1-mile fun run is free for children ages 18 and under.

The proceeds of the event will help Grace Christian provide counseling services to all persons in the community regardless of a person’s resources to pay for those services.

Alcorn volleyball club

The Southern Swing VBC volleyball club is looking for players. The girls club team consists of players ages 8-18, and prior playing experience is not necessary. The coaching staff consists of Alcorn State head coach Chelsey Lucas, past college players, and Alcorn staff.

All age groups will play in five or six tournaments during a season that runs from January through April.
Tryouts and team placement will be held Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for players in the 12-14U age groups; and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. for the 15-18U age groups. Tryouts are at the E.E. Simmons Gym on the Alcorn campus.

There is a $30 tryout fee, and an additional $40 fee to join the club team. Payment is cash or money order only. Fees cover insurance, uniforms and equipment, facility fees, and tournament entry fees.

Wetland workshops

Mississippi’s Lower Delta Partnership (LDP) is hosting two workshops that will detail managing land for waterfowl.

The workshops will be held in Cleveland at the Bolivar County Extension Office on Nov. 7. and at the Rolling Fork Community Center on Nov. 8. The workshops run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are free to attend, but attendees must preregister at lowerdelta.org/workshops or call 662-873-6261 for information.
