Area residents have the opportunity to win up to $1,000 in a drawing sponsored by the Southern Heritage Air Foundation.

“We are doing something to raise money for the museum,” SHAF president Patty Mekus said. “We don’t have the air show this year, and we usually have some kind of program in the off years to raise money.”

Tickets for the drawing are $10 each or 12 for $100. The drawing will be held at the foundation’s hangar lunch Wednesday at noon at the Southern Heritage Air Museum in Mound, La. The goal is to raise $6,000 for the museum, which will be closed Dec. 3 through March. The top prize is $1,000; there will also be two $500 winners and two $250 winners.

People can enter the drawing by going on the foundation’s website at southernheritageair.org.

“The money raised by the drawing will help us pay our bills and provide money for exhibits,” Mekus said.

During the winter months, she said, work at the museum involves changing exhibits, writing grants and making plans for programs.

The drawing is one of three programs at the museum.

• “We are trying to collect 99 birthday cards by Nov. 11 for Philip Cascio, a veteran who was a ball turret gunner on a B-17. He turns 99 on Nov. 11, and we’re hoping to have 99 birthday cards by then,” Mekus said.

• The museum will also host Breakfast with Santa Dec. 2 with programs at 8 and 10 a.m. Admission is $10 and tickets can be purchased through the foundation’s website or its Facebook page.

“People will have to hurry to get tickets,” Mekus said. “We only have 20 left, and they went on sale yesterday (Wednesday).”
