Boil water notice impacting local schools

Culkin Water District has issued a boil water notice for all customers who get their drinking water from 145-789 Highway 80, Highway 27, Cockrell Road, McKenzie Drive, Boykin Drive, Paxton Road, Abraham Drive, Rebecca Evans Road, Business Park Drive and Anderson Road.

The boil water notice also impacts Warren Central High School, River City Early College and Beechwood Elementary. Bottle water will be delivered and “we will provide plenty for them,” said Christi Kilroy, Vicksburg Warren School District spokesperson. Kilroy added that it will not affect food preparation due to the way the food is prepared.

Kadie Hearn, spokesperson for Culkin Water District, said this precautionary action was necessary because the system lost pressure due to a break in the water line.

“When a water distribution system loses pressure, contaminants can siphon back into the system,” Hearn stated in a press release. “Public health officials consider any system that has lost pressure contaminated until tests of the water prove otherwise.”

About 130 households are affected.

As soon as pressure is restored to those customers affected, water system officials will begin collecting samples for testing and recommend that consumers vigorously boil their water for two minutes before it is consumed or use an alternate source for drinking and cooking.
