A man involved in a crime spree early Friday morning was fatally shot by an Edwards Police officer.
According to WAPT, the incident started around 7:15 a.m. when the man, who has not been identified by authorities, attacked and severely beat a 50-year-old woman who was jogging on Pine Grove Road near Highway 49. The man was reportedly scared off by a neighbor.
A vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the early morning incident was later reported by the Madison County Sheriff’s office to have been involved in a crash with a pedestrian and a separate accident with another truck.
The vehicle was then spotted on Farr Road. According to WAPT, when officers attempted to stop the truck, which was reported stolen in Jackson, the driver rammed the officers’ vehicles and continued driving.
The truck eventually drove into a yard at the intersection of Highway 22 and Tucker Lane.
It was there that the driver was killed by an Edwards police officer after reportedly attempting to run over the officer.
According to the Hinds County coroner, via WAPT, the man was killed by a fatal gunshot wound to the back of the head. The officer involved was also reportedly injured in the incident and taken to the hospital with a leg injury.
Neither the officer nor the man who was killed have been identified by authorities.
