The Gators (2-1) took the lead with a steal and layup with less than a minute to go, and then got a defensive stop. Johnson was fouled and hit two free throws with five seconds remaining to give VHS a 61-57 lead and ice the game.

After Gaston’s two free throws put Warren Central ahead 40-38, Fultz split a pair down the stretch to pad the lead. Ridgeland had several chances to score but could not convert.
