Jeanette “Jan” Farmer

Jan Farmer, 74, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at The Orchard in Ridgeland.

Visitation will be at Lakewood Funeral Home Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. with funeral services to follow.

Mrs. Farmer was born on May 30, 1943, in Jackson. She grew up in Carthage and attended Mississippi State University.

After marrying, she moved to Vicksburg where she worked for the (CCD) Camouflage Concealment & Deception Department of Waterways Experiment Station. She later built her own long arm quilting business, Rolling River, and became an award winning quilter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby E. Farmer; and parents, Louis and Olivia Virginia Smith Oliphant.

Mrs. Farmer is survived by her children, Michael Sherwood Farmer, Julia Virginia Ashley (Robert J. Ashley) and Kimble Edward Farmer; grandchildren, Zoë Peyton Phyfer and Samuel Stone Phyfer; and her sister, Dot Barnett.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hawkins United Methodist Church.
