Ugly Sweater Softball

The Vicksburg High softball and baseball teams will play a co-ed “Ugly Christmas Sweater” softball game Dec. 15 at VHS’ Softball Swamp field on Army-Navy Drive. Admission to the game is a toy or monetary donation that will be given to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department’s Christmas toy drive.

The junior varsity teams will play at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30. For more information, call Jessica Ward at 601-831-4439.

Adult basketball league

Registration is open through Dec. 29 for the City of Vicksburg’s men’s and women’s adult basketball leagues. Packets can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation Offices at 100 Army-Navy Drive or at the Jackson Street Community Center.

Team fees begin at $125, with an extra $5 fee for players that are not city residents. The total fee for each team will not exceed $175.

A mandatory Coaches meeting will be held on Dec. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation office. For more information call Joseph Graves at 601-831-8050 or Jay Harper at 601-218-2059.

Ping pong tournament

The City of Vicksburg’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a United States Table Tennis Tournament Jan. 3-5 at the Vicksburg City Auditorium. Registration forms can be picked up at our offices at 100 Army-Navy Drive. Entries will be arranged by ages for the tournament.

Chill in the Hills

Registration is now open for the 10th annual Chill in the Hills run and walk. The 10K run, 5K walk and 1-mile fun run is scheduled for Jan. 13, at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Vicksburg. The registration fee is $25, and includes an anniversary edition T-shirt. The 1-mile fun run is free for children ages 18 and under.

The proceeds of the event will help the counselors at Grace Christian provide counseling services to all persons in the community regardless of a person’s resources to pay for those services.

Hinds baseball showcase

Hinds Community College will host its annual Winter Baseball Showcase Jan. 27 at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond. The showcase is open to players in grades 9-12 and costs $100 per player. Coaches from Hinds and other junior colleges and universities will be in attendance.

Players must bring their own cleats, turf shoes, glove, bats and other equipment.
Money will not be accepted until the day of the showcase in case of weather issues, but pre-registration is available by emailing Hinds assistant coach Nick Ammirati at nicholas.ammirati@hindscc.edu.
