Charles George Gore Jr.

Charles George Gore Jr. died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 84.

Born in Memphis, Tenn., he was the son of the late Charles Gore Sr. and Audrey Madison Gore.

He was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and a graduate of St. Aloysius High School in the Class of 1950. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church.

Mr. Gore owned and operated Gore’s Hardware Company. He and his wife worked side by side since 1961. He always loved flying and started a charter helicopter service. He served as president and pilot of G-2 Helicopters Inc.   

He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and continued his military career in the Mississippi National Guard, the Army Reserves, and the 412th Engineer Command achieving the rank of LTC before retiring from service. He received numerous awards and decorations including United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and Mississippi Longevity Medal.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years, Ann Gore; son, Charles Gore III; daughters, Debra Biedenharn, Theresa DeRossette (James), Lisa Knox (Richard); and nine grandchildren, Elaine Biedenharn Gonzalez, Kristen DeRossette Nosser, Jared DeRossette, Monica DeRossette, Jay Webb, Erica Gore, Courtney Gore, Jason Knox, and Chris Knox.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Thomas J. Lalor, pastor, officiating.

Visitation will be at Fisher Funeral Home Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. and at St. Paul Catholic Church Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Richard Knox, Jason Knox, Chris Knox, James DeRossette, Jared DeRossette, and Jay Webb.
