Warren Central closed out the first half of its boys’ soccer season with a surprisingly satisfying 1-1 tie with Brandon on Thursday night.
Braylen Greer scored Warren Central’s goal off an assist from Hank Holdiness in the 20th minute, and the 1-0 lead held up until Brandon (9-1-3) tied it in the 68th minute. Lucas Rodrigues got the equalizer for Brandon by connecting on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard line.
Chase Graham made 10 saves for Warren Central (11-3-3). The Vikings are off until hosting Brookhaven on Jan. 6.
“It was a great game to end a good first half of the season,” Warren Central coach Greg Head said. “We’re getting some great play out of some young players.”
In the girls’ game, Layken Stockstill made 22 saves in goal but Brandon beat Warren Central 4-0.
Jocelyn Jones scored all four goals for Brandon (10-2-1). She scored the game’s first goal at the 25-minute mark, and then three times in a seven-minute span early in the second half to finally subdue the stubborn Lady Vikes.
