JV basketball report

(B) St. Aloysius 27, Porter’s Chapel 25 – Wes Warnock scored eight points, and Conner Paxton and Tristan Wilbanks had seven apiece to lead St. Aloysius to a win over Porter’s Chapel Academy in a junior high game. Raegan Williams led PCA with 10 points and Logan Sumrall scored nine.

(G) St. Aloysius 30, Porter’s Chapel 11 – Taylor Chewning totaled 11 points and Kendyl Rice scored seven as St. Al’s junior high girls’ team beat crosstown rival Porter’s Chapel. Macy Bufkin led PCA with eight points.

VSO spring registration

Registration is now open for the Vicksburg Soccer Organization’s spring season, and will continue through Jan. 31.

The league is open to children ages 4 and up, with teams split into different age groups. The registration fees are $60 for children in the U4-U6 age groups; $80 for the U8 division; $85 for U10; and $90 for U12 and above. There is a $5 discount for registrations received by Jan. 10.

Chill in the Hills

Registration is now open for the 10th annual Chill in the Hills run and walk. The 10K run, 5K walk and 1-mile fun run is scheduled for Jan. 13, at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Vicksburg. The registration fee is $30, and includes an anniversary edition T-shirt. The 1-mile fun run is free for children ages 18 and under.

The proceeds of the event will help the counselors at Grace Christian provide counseling services to all persons in the community regardless of a person’s resources to pay for those services.

Red Carpet scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the Red Carpet Bowl scholarship awards. The $500 scholarships are available to students at each of Warren County’s four high schools — Warren Central, Vicksburg High, St. Aloysius and Porter’s Chapel Academy — and will be awarded in the spring. To apply, students must fill out an application and write a 500-word essay.

The deadline to apply is March 1. Applications are available by contacting the main office at each school or by calling Travis Wayne Vance at 601-218-8556.

Hinds baseball showcase

Hinds Community College will host its annual Winter Baseball Showcase Jan. 27 at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond. The showcase is open to players in grades 9-12 and costs $100 per player. Players must bring their own equipment.

Money will not be accepted until the day of the showcase in case of weather, but pre-registration is available by emailing Hinds assistant coach Nick Ammirati at nicholas.ammirati@hindscc.edu.
