Almost four months after his death, the identity of the person who shot Antonio Maurice Henderson remains a mystery.
Henderson’s death is the Vicksburg Police Department’s only unsolved homicide from 2017, and Sgt. Johnnie Edwards, the department’s chief of investigation, said police are still trying to piece together information they hope will lead to Henderson’s killer.
Henderson, 36, was shot and killed Oct. 30 at the East View Apartments, 1900 Baldwin Ferry Road. Police responding about 12:04 a.m. to a call of shots fired in the area arrived to find Henderson on the ground in front of building 14 with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey.
Witnesses told police they heard an argument and then shots were fired. They said a dark colored vehicle left the area at a high rate of speed after the shooting.
“We are still interviewing potential witnesses in the case,” Edwards said. “At one point we seemed close to an arrest, but it fell through.”
He said police are preparing to go public with a call for anyone who saw the shooting and may have seen the shooter.
“We’re going to go to the media and put it on social media through the police department’s Facebook Page,” he said. “We’re asking anybody who knows anything about this to call us or call Crime Stoppers.”
The police department’s number is 601-636-2511. Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers can be called at 601-355-TIPS (8477) or 1-866-481-8477.
“They (callers) can be anonymous,” Edwards said. “We’re not interested in your background; we’re interested in what you know. We want information.”
