Vicksburg man charged with armed robbery

A Vicksburg man has been charged with robbery after his arrest Friday by Vicksburg police, Sgt. Johnnie Edwards said.

Romelo James Walker, 20, is accused of two counts of armed robbery and possession of crack cocaine after the drug was found during the arrest. He was arrested by police about 227 p.m. at the intersection of Bowmar Avenue and Yerger Street after the officers saw him at the corner of Bowmar and Drummond Street.

He is being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond

In another case,

Dalton Wayne Hynum, 49, 678 Kirkland Road, is charged with felony shoplifting in the reported theft of $1,188.54 in merchandise from Walmart. Edwards said the items reported taken included assorted clothing, cosmetics and beauty supplies, fishing rods, carpentry tools and an HP laptop computer. His bond was set at $5,000.

In other cases:

• Joe Davis, 56, 125 Lee Circle, faces a charge of possession of cocaine after his arrest during a traffic stop early Monday morning at the intersection of Mission 66 and Short Main Street. His bond was set at $2,500.

• A DeWalt 1/2-inch cordless impact drill, Nikon binoculars valued at $600 and an Igloo soft cooler valued at $150 were reported taken from the tool box of a trailer parked at the Super 8 Hotel, 3308 Pemberton Square Blvd. 

• An individual reported Sunday about 1:55 p.m. $340 was taken from their account by someone using their debit card number.

• A man reported Sunday about 4:10 a.m. that $1,500 was taken by someone he invited to his room at the Ameristar Casino, 4116 Washington St.

• Shots were reported fired into a home in the 2600 block of Ken Karyl Avenue about 1:24 a.m. Sunday. No one was wounded and no arrests were made.

• Shots were reported fired Sunday about 4:25 p.m. in the 2100 block of North Washington Street near Union Avenue.

• A 9mm Ruger handgun and a .22-caliber Browning Buckmaster handgun were reported taken about 10:02 a.m. Saturday from a 2009 Ford F-250 pickup parked at the Comfort Suites, 100 Berryman Road.

• A counterfiet $20 bill was reported passed Friday about 10:09 p.m. at Riverwalk Casino, 1046 Warrenton Road.

• Shots were reported fired Friday about 8:46 p.m. in the vicinity of Locust Street.

• Three red 5-gallon gas cans and 15 gallons of gas were reported taken about 4:22 p.m. Friday from a storage shed at the Rivertown Campground, 5900 U.S. 61 South.

• A .38-caliber Taurus handgun, a 9mm Ruger handgun and a denim purse containing checkbook, debit card and Social Security card were reported taken from a car parked at the Ameristar Casino, 4116 Washington St.

Police made the following arrests between Jan. 5 and Jan. 7:

• Shonita Monkee Green, 42, First North Street, was arrested Sunday about 8:05 a.m. in the 3900 block of Washington Street.

• Michael Jamal Evans, 19, 129 McAuley Drive, was arrested Saturday about 9:16 p.m. in the 3500 block of Pemberton Square Boulevard on a charge of simple assault with hands and fists.

• Angel Deangleis Taylor, 30, was arrested about 5:21 p.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of Iowa on charges of shoplifting.

• Keonda Lashay Bailey, 20, 2914 Drummond St., was arrested about 4:03 p.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of Drummond Street on a charge of disorderly conduct.

• Shalonda Tashay Bailey, 20, 2914 Drummond St., was arrested about 3:17 p.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of Drummond Street on a charge of disorderly conduct.

• Warrants were served on Charles Aaron Gaskin, 48, 4920 Halls Ferry Road, about 4 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Grove St.

• John Zackery Conway, 26, 50 Sullivan Cove, was arrested about 12:18 a.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of Clay Street on charges of public drunkenness, having an open container of alcohol, indecent exposure and disorderly conduct — failure to comply.

• Korbin Marquis Richards, 24, 2509 Ken Karyl Ave., was arrested about 11:37 p.m. Friday in the 1300 block of Washington Street on charges of contempt of court and possession on marijuana.

• London Williams III, 18, 200 Alfa Drive, was arrested about 8:48 p.m. Friday in the 2700 block of Alcorn Drive on a charge of possession of marijuana.

• Rhonda Lynn Gray, 51, 1206 Price St., was arrested about 5:15 p.m. Friday in the 3500 block of Pemberton Square Boulevard on a charge of trespassing.

• Precious Donta Wilson, 22, 1014 E Urban Court, was arrested about 3:15 p.m. Friday at the Vicksburg Police Department on a charge of contempt of court — community service.

• Nicole Sherice Combs, 31, 1516 Ethel St. Apt. A, was arrested about 2:03 p.m. Friday in the 3400 block of Halls Ferry on a charge of shoplifting.

• Jonathon Johnson, 29, 1300 Cherry St. Apt. 409, was arrested about 1:45 p.m. Friday at the police department on a charge of contempt of court.

• Kendrick Jamaal Ferguson, 25, 403 Cairo Drive, was arrested about 10:51 a.m. Friday at the police department on a charge of contempt of court.

• Anita Marie Thompson, 31, 1007 Polk St., was arrested about 8:15 a.m. Friday in the 4100 block of Pemberton Square Boulevard on charges of begging — tramps and disorderly conduct — failure to comply.

• Huey Donell Younger, 54, 312 Hutson St., was arrested about 6:09 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of Hutson Street for a leash law violation — allowing dog to run loose.

• Vickey Lee Robinson, 51, 1308 Ethel St., was arrested about 11:14 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Cherry and South streets on charges of first-offense DUI, running a stop sign/red light, no proof of insurance and having an open container of alcohol.
