Due to the weather, all schools in Warren County closed Tuesday and will remain closed through Wednesday.

“VWSD Administrators have been in constant contact with Warren County Emergency Management about the wintry weather and road conditions,” superintendent Chad Shealy said. “Because of low temperatures, extremely slippery road conditions are expected to remain through tomorrow. Therefore, all VWSD schools and offices will be closed tomorrow.”

VWSD’s policy, which follows state law, does not require days cancelled due to weather to be made up pending approval by the Board of Trustees. All district employees will also be paid for missed days.

Porter’s Chapel Academy and Vicksburg Catholic Schools will also be closed Wednesday due to weather. St. Aloysius principal Buddy Strickland said after talking to emergency management it was determined that the roads would not be safe enough to travel Wednesday leading to the decision to close.

City and county offices will remain closed Wednesday. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, which would have been held Tuesday, will be Thursday at 10 a.m.

Also, the Vicksburg Rotary Club’s Centennial Gala, which was set for Tuesday evening, has been rescheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center. Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant was scheduled to attend the gala Tuesday but as of Tuesday afternoon it had not been confirmed whether he would be able to attend Thursday.

The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center and Vicksburg National Military Park also closed Tuesday, along with many stores and restaurants in town.
