Order of the Eastern Star to have annual food giveaway

The Lady Pearl Bradley Chapter 48 of the Order of the Eastern Star will be hosting its third annual food giveaway Wednesday.
The chapter typically holds the giveaway in December, but it was delayed this year and will instead be held Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Jackson Street Community Center, 923 Walnut St.
The members of the chapter collected the food with help from local grocery stores and members of the community and hope to help as many people as possible.
“We will be giving out the bags of food as long as they last,” chapter president Peggy Simpson-Mosley said. “I know that I can’t reach everyone. Our concern is that we reach someone that actually needs the food. It is not like we are trying to give someone everything they need. We are trying to give them something they can use.”
The chapter started the drive in 2015 as a way to give back to the community. Last year, food was given to 67 people and Simpson-Mosley said they hope to help even more this year.
“It is part of giving back to the community,” Simpson-Mosley said. “I would like to see it grow each year and get bigger and better. It is just a matter of being here. I know there are people here who do struggle, and it is ok to give back.”
There are no requirements to receive food. People simply have to come during the distribution time.
“Anybody that needs it,” Simpson-Mosley said of who is eligible. “I am hoping that people who need the food will come and get it. I am not going to ask any questions.”
