The city of Vicksburg is fortunate to have plenty of options when it comes to live theater.
This past weekend, the Vicksburg Theatre Guild held the opening productions of “Noises Off.’
The comedy takes every “theatre person’s” worst nightmares and puts it all up onstage, and makes if humorous, director of the show Elizabeth Cowan said.
“The show follows a group of B-level actors in their endeavors to put on a British slapstick comedy and when they get caught up in backstage drama chaos ensues onstage with hilarious results,” Cowan said, adding that the comedy is similar to the style of the three stooges.
“Noises Off” will continue at the Parkside Playhouse, 101 Iowa Ave. this weekend with shows beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Also, Vicksburg, Warren Central and St. Aloysius high schools will be performing their spring musicals.
Vicksburg and St. Al will bring Disney classics to the life as they perform “Cinderella” and “Peter Pan,” respectively, and Warren Central will take the audience back in time to the 1960s with a performance of “Hairspray.”
Vicksburg High School director Angela Chapin said her cast for “Cinderella” has been working for months to get their show ready.
“You have auditions and then you have to cast and then you have to sit down and plan out your scenes, lighting and sound crew. You have to put all the set pieces together and paint and then hours and hours of rehearsal. It is months of preparation,” Chapin said.
Shows for “Cinderella” will be performed at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 and 24 at the VHS auditorium.
Eric Johnson, the new musical director at WCHS, will be directing “Hairspray.”
“It (Hairspray) has been a favorite show of mine for a long time and it was the very first professional production show I ever got to see,” Johnson said.
Shows for “Hairspray” will be performed at 6:30 p.m. March 1, and at 7 p.m. March 2 and 3 at the WCHS auditorium.
Students at SA, who are performing and those working in the production crew with the “PeterPan,” can llok forward to 10-hour intensive rehearsals scheduled with ZFX Productions, co-director and choreographer Chesley Lambiotte said.
Shows for “Peter Pan” will be performed at 7 p.m. March 21 through 24 at the Parkside Playhouse Theatre.
