Drug and weapon charges land man in prison

A Vicksburg man indicted on drug and weapons charges will serve four years in prison after pleading guilty in Warren County Circuit Court to one count of sale of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm after felony conviction.

Judge M. James Chaney sentenced Johnny Lee Thompson, 35, to seven years with four years to serve on the weapons charge, and eight years with three to serve on drug charge. The sentences will be served concurrently, meaning they will be served together.

A third charge of possession of methamphetamine was dropped as part of the plea.

Chaney also placed Thompson on post-release supervision and ordered him to pay a total of $3,769 in fines, fees and court costs.

Thompson was arrested in February 2017 at an apartment on Fisher Ferry Road by Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agents, the Mississippi Highway Patrol SWAT team, Warren County sheriff’s deputies and Vicksburg police.

At the time he was charged with possession of methamphetamine, sale of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm after felony conviction. He was also wanted for probation violation in Louisiana.

The drug charges were the result of a three-month investigation by MBN.

In another case, Ernessa Farrell Jackson, 40, was placed in five years’ probation after pleading guilty to embezzlement and ordered to pay $4,884.50 in restitution, fees and court costs. 

The Vicksburg Police Department made the following arrests Feb. 28.

• Antane Jackson, 22, 2109 Oak St. was arrested on a warrant for Contempt of Court.

• Kacy Smith, 18, 2016 Sky Farm Avenue, was arrested on a warrant for Second Offense Shoplifting.

• Richard Thomas, 30, 428 Dana Road, was arrested on a warrant for three counts of Contempt of Court.

• Kimberly Miller, 37, 304 Hwy 80, was arrested on a warrant for Contempt of Court.

• Carlos Smith, 36, 700 Sherman Avenue, was arrested on a warrant for Trespassing.

• Michael Amos, 54, 1847 Main St., was arrested on a warrant for Contempt of Court.

• George Baker, 40, 1523 Ethel S., was arrested on a warrant for three counts Contempt of Court.

• Derrick Johnson, 36, 620 Locust St., was arrested for Public Drunk in the 1300 block of Clay Street.

• Matthew Martinez, 27, 304 Hwy 80, was arrested for No Driver’s License and No Insurance following a traffic stop in the 2100 block of South Frontage Road.

• Jason Berry, 32, 5980 Halls Ferry Road, was arrested for Trespassing in the 100 block of Mulberry Street.

• Alvra Barnes, 33, 539 Hugo St., was arrested on a warrant for five counts of Contempt of Court.
