YMCA lifeguard class

The Vicksburg YMCA will host an American Red Cross lifeguarding class April 9-19. The 30-hour class will meet from 6 to 8:45 p.m. each weeknight for two weeks at the Purks YMCA. Participants must be at least 15 years old or turning that age no later than April 20, 2018.

Candidates must also complete a strength and endurance test that includes a 300-yard swim using various strokes, and other timed drills.

The cost for the course is $125 for YMCA members and $175 for non-members. The class will be taught by American Red Cross instructors Susan and Bob Athow, and Sylvia Gurtowski.

Fuzzy Johnson Baseball

Registration is now open for the Fuzzy Johnson Baseball League’s 2018 season. The league is for children ages 9-15, and games are played at Fuzzy Johnson Park on Mission 66. Registration forms are available at the Jackson Street Community Center, or by calling Ernest Galloway at 601-618-4455.

WC volleyball tryouts
Tryouts for Warren Central’s varsity volleyball team will be held March 29 and 30 at Warren Central High School. All players must have a current physical, parental permission form, residency form and a concussion form, and attend both days of the tryouts.

VHS volleyball tryouts

Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s varsity volleyball team will be held March 19-21 at Vicksburg Junior High, at 4:30 p.m. each day. The tryouts are for players in grades 6-11.

Tryouts for the Vicksburg Junior High team will be held March 22-23, at VJHS at 4 p.m. each day.

Birdie, Bogey and Boogie

The Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg will host its annual Birdie, Bogey and Boogie for Kids golf tournament on April 6 at Vicksburg Country Club. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., and the tournament at 1 p.m. The entry fee for the four-person scramble is $400 per team. To register, contact Laura Kidder at 800-221-3536.

USM basketball camp

Southern Miss will host a youth basketball camp May 30 through June 1 at Reed Green Coliseum in Hattiesburg. The camp is for boys and girls ages 4-11, and will run from 8 a.m. to noon each day. The camp is geared toward developing a love for the game in elementary school players by providing basketball activities with social interaction.
