WC archers finish third at state meet

Warren Central’s archery team was on the mark Wednesday at the MHSAA Class III state archery tournament.

Carter McIlroy finished 26th overall to lead the Vikings to a third-place finish in the team standings with a cumulative score of 3,256.

Saltillo won the state title, with a score of 3,352 and Picayune was second with 3,295. Vicksburg High finished 15th out of 33 Class III schools, with a score of 3,143.

McIlory scored 286 points out of a possible 300 and tied with eight other archers. WC’s Dillon Hearn scored 280 points and finished 70th.

Joshua Russell was Vicksburg’s top scorer, with 275 points. David White and Elijah Knight each scored 274.

South Pontotoc’s Parker Flint won the individual state title with 295 points.
In the girls’ tournament, Warren Central’s Abigayle Callaway and Alexis Cook each totaled 275 points to finish in a tie for 78th place. Jillian Creel scored 264.

Kayla Foster led Vicksburg High with 263 points, Makayla Williams scored 255 and Peyton McKenzie 253.

Piper Britt of Mendenhall won the state title with 292 points.
