On Saturday, six separate fundraisers all supporting missions will be offered at Hawkins United Methodist Church.

“The church will hold a garage sale, a bake sale, a plant sale, a car wash, items for sale from the church’s sewing circle and a barbeque lunch,” Hawkins UMC church member Frances Reeves said.

“This is a bi-annual event that we usually have in April and September. The men’s club does the chicken barbeque and while that is going on the ladies of the United Methodist Women have a garage sale,” Reeves said.

Handmade items will also be available for sale by the ladies sewing circle and the youth are sponsoring the car wash.

Everyone in the church is involved with the fundraisers in one way or another, Reeves said, either by donating items for the garage sale or working the day of the event.

Proceeds from the separate fundraisers will be given to designated missions, mostly local, Reeves added. In the past they have included the Good Shepherd Community Center, Haven House Family Shelter and the Storehouse Community Food Pantry.

Items for the garage sale, Reeves said, would include furniture, housewares, linens, books and artwork.

“There will be no clothing or shoes,” she said.

Plants for the plant sale will be supplied by church members and will include irises, day lilies and houseplants.

The ladies sewing circle will be selling handmade crocheted and knitted items, dishcloths and potato bags.

Last year, Reeves said UMW raised more than $5,000 from their respective fundraiser.

Saturday’s fundraisers will begin at 8 a.m. and all events will be held inside the church, 3736 Halls Ferry Road. The barbeque lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m. Tickets are $10, and Reeves said take-outs would be available.
