Bluz Cruz race

The 14th annual Bluz Cruz kayak and canoe race is scheduled for April 21, and registration is now open.

Bluz Cruz is a 22-mile paddle down the Mississippi River and Yazoo Diversion Canal, from Madison Port in Tallulah to the Vicksburg riverfront. Kayakers and canoers can race in their own boats, or ride in a 12-person boat from Quapaw Canoe Company. The registration fee is $60. The cost for riding in the Quapaw boats is $130. Profits from the event benefit Service Over Self, a Christian based youth service organization serving the Vicksburg/Warren County Area.

Rebel Road Trip

The 2018 Ole Miss Rebel Road Trip will make a stop in Vicksburg on April 24, at the Vicksburg Convention Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The featured speakers will include football head coach Matt Luke, new basketball coaches Kermit Davis and Yolett McPhee-McCuin, and athletic director Ross Bjork.

Malcolm Butler Football Camp

Registration is now open for the fourth annual Malcolm Butler Football Camp, and will continue through April 30 or until all slots are full.

The camp will be held July 14 at Vicksburg High School’s Memorial Stadium. There are 200 slots for first- through sixth-graders in the Malcolm & Me Camp, and 300 spots for seventh- through 12th-graders in The Malcolm Butler Junior High and High School Football Camp.

The camp is free, but registration is available online only, at malcolmbutlerfootballcamp.org

Adult softball league

Registration for the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department’s spring softball league will continue until April 27.

Registration is open to men’s, women’s and church teams. Packets are available at the Parks and Rec office at 100 Army Navy Drive, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A mandatory coaches meeting will be held on April 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Rec office. For more information, call Joseph Graves at 601-831-8050.

Learn to Swim class

Vicksburg City Pool will hold registration for the American Red Cross’ Learn to Swim program, May 16-18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, and from 10 a.m. to noon on May 19. All registration must be done in person at City Pool and is on a first come, first served basis.

The classes provide low-cost swim lessons to children and adults of all ages. Children must be at least 3 years old to participate. The cost is $15 per student for each 10-day session.

All payments must be made by cash or check and are due at registration. For more information, call 601-634-4516.
