JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A man charged with capital murder has been recaptured after his mistaken release from jail in Mississippi.

Officials at the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond tell local media that 26-year-old Chauncy Reed was released late Thursday.

Officers took Reed back into custody hours later. He’s now jailed in Madison County.

Reed was charged with capital murder and accused of shooting at a Jackson police officer Wednesday. An officer shot and killed Reed’s brother, 30-year-old Elliot Reed. Police charged Chauncy Reed with capital murder, saying his decision to shoot caused his brother’s death.

It’s not the first time someone facing serious charges has been wrongly released in Hinds County. A rape suspect was let out in December 2015, while six prisoners, including two murder suspects, were released in 2012.
