The Vicksburg Warren School District is looking for the next group of students who want to take the first step toward changing their lives.
VWSD and Hinds Community College Vicksburg will be hosting an interest meeting for students interested in enrolling in the dual enrollment practical nursing program next year.
The meeting will be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Joe Loviza Auditorium at Hinds Vicksburg.
Students in the program will graduate high school with their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license and be only a summer and fall semester away from earning their Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certificate.
The program is open to seniors at Warren Central and Vicksburg high schools. To be eligible to enroll, students must have earned a combined ACT score of 18 or higher and math and reading sub-scores of at least 18.
They will also need a letter of recommendation from their counselor or principal and a copy of their high school transcript.
Monday’s interest meeting will also give students the opportunity to apply to both the practical nursing program and Hinds Community College. Both applications must be completed in order to enroll in the program.
“Hinds is going to take between 10 to 15 students, but who’s to say that if they have 20 potential students, they may open their doors and offer it to 20 students. That would be a Hinds decision,” said Terence James, the Career and Technical administration.
Students who are accepted to the program will enroll in three courses at Hinds and graduate high school having completed 15 hours of college level practical nursing coursework.
