Qualifying deadline for Nov. judicial election now over

Two local judges are unopposed for re-election following the close of qualifying for state and local judicial races.
Qualifying ended May 11. The nonpartisan elections are Nov. 6.
In local court races, Warren County Chancellor Vicki Roach Barnes is unopposed for re-election to her seat in Place 3 of the 9th Chancery Court District. The district includes Warren, Issaquena, Sharkey, Humphreys Sunflower and Washington counties. Ninth Circuit District Place 2 Judge M. James Chaney is also unopposed. The 9th District includes Warren, Issaquena and Sharkey counties.
Assistant District Attorney Angela Carpenter and Vicksburg Municipal Judge Toni Walker Terrett have qualified for Circuit District Judge Place 9-1, presently held by Judge Isadore Patrick, who is retiring from the bench and not seeking re-election.
In County Court, County Prosecutor Richard “Ricky” Johnson and Assistant District Attorney Marcie Southerland have qualified for election to the seat held by County Judge John Price, who is retiring and not seeking re-election.
In other judicial races, Eric Charles Hawkins, former Appeals Court Justice Ceola James of Vicksburg and Deborah McDonald are running for the District 2 Place 1 seat presently held by Justice Tyree Irving, who is not seeking re-election.
