To the editor:

On behalf of the board of directors of the Friends of Vicksburg National Military Park and Campaign, I would like to thank all who participated in the many programs during the Memorial Day Weekend at Vicksburg National Military Park.

The weekend was full of activity beginning with the volunteers who placed 17,000 flags at the Vicksburg National Cemetery.

The Living History Musket and Cannon Demonstrations were well attended, as was the Flag-raising Ceremony at the Vicksburg National Cemetery.

For the first time, we offered free guided tours of the Vicksburg National Military Park for Vicksburg and Warren County residents and were thrilled to have so many embrace the opportunity to learn more of the important history that happened in our backyard.

Unfortunately, due to weather and safety concerns, the Symphony at Sunset featuring the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra had to be cancelled.

Despite the cancellation we are forever grateful for the sponsors of the event who support this great community event.

Without the help of the generous sponsors of the Four Seasons of the Arts and the Friends of VNMP and Campaign, we would not be able to offer events like this year after year at no charge to the public.

We would like to especially acknowledge our lead contributors, Eastern National, the Ergon Foundation, Waring Oil Company, MNM Enterprises – McDonald’s of Vicksburg, Riverhills Bank, and Bailess and Rector LLP.

We are also grateful for the in-kind support of McAllister’s Deli, Ameristar Casino, Vicksburg Hampton Inn & Suites, and the Outlets at Vicksburg.

Thank you for being a friend and supporter of the Vicksburg National Military Park.
