Fire destroys secluded home

A home on Dana Road was deemed a total loss following a fire that occurred Thursday morning.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Craig Danczyk said 911 received a call of a fire at 2160 Dana Road at 3:33 a.m. Thursday after neighbors spotted flames. Danczyk said city and county units both initially responded to the fire and by the time they arrived on scene the home was fully consumed.

“It had a long driveway and was kind of secluded so it wasn’t visible from the road,” Danczyk said. “There was a lot of fire when the neighbors noticed so 911 was activated later than sooner and when fire units got on scene, it was fully involved and there was nothing really to save.”

Danczyk said no one was home at the time of the fire and the cause is still under investigation.

“We are not certain what caused the fire at this time and we are going to do our due diligence,” he said. “When you have that much damage, it also eliminates some of your markings that often time will point you in the right direction to where the fire originated. A lot of times, the interior walls will have burn patterns and that will leave clues to where the fire started. Pretty much all those were destroyed so we had less to work with to quickly determine a point of origin.”

Danzcyk said there were no adjacent structures or cars impacted by the flames nor did the fire spread to the wooded area around the home. Danczyk said the home was a rental property and the resident was not home at the time.
