Reader disagrees with Jamie Stiehm’s column

Dear Editor:

“Columnist” Jamie Stiehm’s ramblings of Sunday May 27 contained a glaring untruth (aka an outright lie) regarding the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Maybe Ms. Stiehm saw a version of the royal wedding of which I am not aware, but in the version I and millions of viewers worldwide watched, Ms. Markle did NOT walk down the aisle alone, she was escorted by Prince Charles.

And, of course, into her gushing ramblings about the royal wedding Ms. Stiehm had to weave her political views. Despite what she would have us believe, the humiliation to the United States is not President Trump, who, by the way, DID win the election.

Only a few short years ago, we in this country, as a general rule, were respectful of elected officials, above all the president, whether or not we agreed with or disliked the person in office at the time. Now it is not only tolerated, it is even encouraged in many circles to be downright vulgar and disgusting in any way imaginable in order to display ones extent of hate for elected officials, and especially our current president. No one is immune.

No, the humiliation to this country is not the president. The great humiliation to our society is the moral decay that has resulted in the loss of common decency and respect.

In closing, I have to admit, Ms. Stiehm’s column was indeed a fine example of modern liberal journalism.

Editor’s Note: Meghan Markle entered the church and walked halfway to the altar alone, a move thought symbolic of her feminist leanings. She was met by Prince Charles at the halfway point and escorted the rest of the way to the altar.
