We need to be hospitable hosts this week

Published 7:25 pm Friday, June 15, 2018

This coming week Vicksburg will be on display as hundreds of visitors will be coming to town as Vicksburg hosts the Miss Mississippi Pageant for the 61st year.

With so many visitors coming to town, it is imperative that the city and the people who live here put their best foot forward.

The city has been working to spruce up downtown, the crowns have been repainted in intersections and merchants have decorated prior to the guests arriving to town.

The residents of Vicksburg must also play their part in making sure everything is spick and span for all the visitors.

If you see a stray piece of trash, please help by picking it up and please think twice about littering.

The hundreds of visitors coming to town are staying in hotels, shopping and eating in local restaurants. All those dollars being spent equal more tax revenue to support things such as the new sports complex. Visitors who decided to spend some free time at the casinos spend money that helps the city, county and school district.

The pageant is big business for Vicksburg and one of the busiest weeks of the year for merchants downtown.

So as the visitors come to town, say hello, offer directions if they seem lost and please help keep Vicksburg beautiful.
