Ellen Virginia Sorrels Seawright

Ellen Virginia Sorrels Seawright, born April 16, 1912, in Carlisle, Claiborne County, to Albert Sidney Sorrels and Lilian Elmore Perkins Sorrels, departed this life on Monday, June 25, 2018, in Vicksburg.

She was the sole survivor of eleven children, she being number eight.

She married Lou Hoy Seawright in 1936. She taught math in Miss., until they moved to LaMarque, Texas, in 1950, where he was a pipefitter and welder and she continued with her teaching career. Not only did she teach math, she also taught piano lessons and sports during recess and any other time she could fit it in.

The couple retired in 1974 and returned to Miss., and lived in Vicksburg to be near their relatives. They operated and lived in a mobile home park South of Vicksburg until they bought a home at 104 Belva Dr. in 1979. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ at her church, Redbone Methodist. After Hoy died in 1983, she began traveling and enjoyed sightseeing on all continents except Antarctica. Her favorite tour was to The Holy Land in 1990. In March 2004, she sold her home and moved into an apartment at Heritage House Retirement Center, where she resided until the time of her death. 

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Sidney Sorrels, Aubert Sorrels and Everette Sorrels; and sisters, Edith Sorrels, Vivian Reeves, Myrtie Taylor, Annie Laurie Boren, Lillie Belle Hart, Cathleen Harmon and Lillian Mangum.

Left to cherish her memory are a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. A graveside service will be 4 p.m. at Hermanville Cemetery with the Rev. John Evans officiating.
