No hearing was held Thursday in Sunflower County Chancery Court for former Vicksburg resident and business owner Tammy Carol English who was arrested last week on a civil contempt warrant from Sunflower County.
Initial information indicated that English, the former owner of Good Samaritan Physical Therapy, was to have a hearing on the charge Thursday in Sunflower County Chancery Court, but a court clerk said no hearings were held. No date was given when the hearing would be reset. She remained in the Sunflower County Jail according to jail records.
The contempt charge was issued because English failed to meet the provisions of a court-ordered divorce settlement to pay her former husband more than $1 million.
Although the divorce was filed in Warren County, the case was transferred to the Sunflower County chancellor because the Warren County chancery judge claimed a conflict of interest. The file was sealed on the presiding judge’s order, according to Warren County chancery clerk’s records.
According to the Supreme Court decision upholding the settlement, English was ordered to pay her ex-husband, Dane Davenport, $1.5 million in installments of $8,421.75 a month for 180 months. Davenport owned 25 percent of Good Samaritan Physical Therapy and the couple owned two homes and a condominium, according to the court record.
English, however, fell behind in her payments and failed to meet certain court-mandated deadlines, resulting in the civil contempt warrant.
English, who had been working in Louisiana as a physical therapist, was arrested last week in Madison County, where she had gone to eat. The warrant was discovered during a police records check, and she was arrested and transferred to Sunflower County.
