Tammy Carol English will be in Sunflower County Chancery Court in Indianola 11 a.m. Tuesday for a hearing that began Thursday.
English was arrested last week on a civil contempt warrant from Sunflower County. A deputy clerk in the Sunflower County Chancery Clerk’s office indicated Thursday afternoon that no hearings were held, but additional investigation revealed that Sunflower chancellor Jane R. Weathersby held a hearing on English’s contempt charge that was continued until Tuesday.
The contempt charge was issued because English failed to meet the provisions of a court-ordered divorce settlement to pay her former husband more than $1 million.
Although the divorce was filed in Warren County, the case was transferred to the Sunflower County chancellor because the Warren County chancery judge claimed a conflict of interest. The file was sealed on the presiding judge’s order, according to Warren County Chancery Clerk’s records.
According to the Supreme Court decision upholding the settlement, English was ordered to pay her ex-husband, Dane Davenport, $1.5 million in installments of $8,421.75 a month for 180 months. Davenport owned 25 percent of Good Samaritan Physical Therapy and the couple owned two homes and a condominium, according to the court record.
English, however, fell behind in her payments and failed to meet certain court-mandated deadlines, resulting in the civil contempt warrant.
English, who had been working in Louisiana as a physical therapist, was arrested last week in Madison County, where she had gone to eat. The warrant was discovered during a police records check, and she was arrested and transferred to Sunflower County.
