City officials are waiting on an inspection and approval from the Office of State Aid Construction before re-opening the Zollingers Hill bridge.
State Aid officials ordered the bridge closed in March declaring it unsafe at any weight after a rotten piling was found during an inspection.
“The repairs have been completed,” public works director Garnet Van Norman said. He said, however, he did not know when State Aid officials will come inspect the repairs.
Fordice construction made temporary repairs to the bridge by removing the bad section and splicing the good wood using a concrete piling and bracing to strengthen it.
“Soon as they give us the go-ahead, I’ll open it up,” Van Norman said.
County officials plan to replace the wooden pilings with concrete pilings in the future.
