John Guy Cesare, Sr. died July 8, 2018. He was 95.

Born in Lake Providence, Louisiana, on Feb. 18, 1923, he was the son of the late Theresa Salemi Cesare and the late Charles Salvatore Cesare. He attended Saint Aloysius High School and was a charter member of Boy Scout Troop 7.

After his graduation, he attended Mississippi State University where he received his accounting degree. He served in the European Theater in World War II. He then returned home and married his sweetheart, Barbara Ellen Salmon on Jan. 19, 1949. They were married 66 years before her death on June 2, 2015.

He began a lifelong career as an internal auditor for the Corps of Engineers, where he served 45 years as a dedicated employee. He was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church and St. Michael Catholic Church. Through his years as a devoted, faithful Catholic, he was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus in the Vicksburg Council 898.

The most treasured legacy of his life was being blessed with a loving wife, children, grand children, and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his children Mary Piazza White, Charles David Cesare, Sr. M.D (Carie), Carol Cesare Walker (Robert), and a daughter-in-law Sue Cesare. He was the proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is pre-deceased in death by his son John Guy Cesare, Jr. and his daughter Anne Elizabeth Cesare.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to his loving caregivers Beth Neff and Mona Denekas. Services will be Thursday, July 12, at St. Paul Catholic Church with visitation from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Interment following at Greenlawn Gardens. Memorials may be made to Vicksburg Catholic Schools, 1200 Hayes Street, Vicksburg, MS 39183 and the Mississippi Chapter Alzheimer’s Association, 196 Charmant Drive, Suite 4, Ridgeland, MS 39157.

Pallbearers are Charles Cesare, Sr., Robert Walker, Mike Piazza, John Piazza, Hunter White and Kevin Mahoney.
