Teen held in shooting; victim stable

A 15-year-old teen faces a charge of aggravated assault in the Monday afternoon shooting of a 17-year-old girl at an apartment complex at 1001 First East St., Vicksburg police Sgt. Johnnie Edwards said.

He said the girl, who was shot in the neck, was in stable condition Tuesday at University of Mississippi Medical Center. Her accused assailant was being held in the Warren County Youth Detention Center pending the results of a Tuesday certification hearing. His name and the victim’s name have not been released.

The shooting occurred just before 2 p.m. Monday. The girl, who was found inside the apartment, was taken by ambulance to Merit Health River Region and later transferred to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Police were initially looking for a 16-year-old boy, but after further investigation determined the accused shooter is 15.

The case remains under investigation.

In other cases:

• An argument at a home in the 3300 block of U.S. 61 South resulted in the arrest of a Vicksburg man on a Mississippi Department of Corrections warrant.

Charles Wayne Felts, 45, 3365 U.S. 61 South, was arrested about 10:15 p.m. Monday after the warrant was revealed during a records check by officers who responded to the disturbance.

• A purse, cell phone, set of keys and $120 were reported taken about 9:18 p.m. from a Nissan Altima parked at F&G Grocery, 1707 Washington St.

Police made the following arrests Monday:

• Christiana Deanna Howard, 22, 2507 Cedar St., was arrested about 2:35 a.m. Monday in the 3300 block of Clay Street on charges of careless driving and having no insurance.

• Nicholas Parke Skinner, 29, 108 Napa Valley, Clinton, was arrested about 4:15 a.m. in the 800 block of U.S. 61 North on a charge of contempt of court.

• 7:27 a.m. Monday, 2700 block of Drummond Street, petit larceny.

• 1:54 p.m. Sunday, 4100 block of Washington Street, trespassing.

• 12:41 p.m. Sunday, 2400 block of Clay Street, trespassing.

• 12:34 p.m. Sunday, 100 block of Warrenton Road, malicious mischief.

• 3:37 p.m. Sunday, 3400 Block of Halls Ferry Road, lost property; undetermined theft.

• 1:05 p.m. Sunday, 400 block of Zollingers Hill, petit larceny.

• 3:13 a.m. Saturday, 1400 block of First East Street, simple assault.

• 3:10 a.m. Saturday, 1200 block of Mission 66, vehicle fire.

• 10:07 a.m. Saturday, 1400 block of South Street, simple assault.

• 10:20 a.m. Saturday, 3500 Block of Pemberton Boulevard, shoplifting.

• 11:27 a.m. Saturday, 3600 block of Mercer Street, trespassing.

• 11:39 a.m. Friday, 500 Block of Old Cain Ridge Road, leash law violation.

• 1:19 p.m Friday, Bazinsky Road and Wisconsin Avenue, simple assault-creating fear.

• 4:08 p.m. Friday, 3500 block of Washington Street, simple assault-creating fear.

• 8:29 p.m. Friday, 2100 block of Iowa Boulevard, second-offence shoplifting.

• 9:18 p.m.  Friday, 1100 block of Jefferson Street, malicious mischief.

• 10:41 p.m. Friday, 1700 block of Monroe Street, malicious mischief.
