VPD: Teen shooter involved in drive-by earlier in the day

The 15-year-old juvenile facing aggravated assault charges in the shooting and wounding of a 17-year-old girl Monday afternoon, faces a second charge of drive-by shooting involving shots fired at the same apartment complex where the girl was shot, Vicksburg police Sgt. Johnnie Edwards said.

Edwards said the drive-by shooting occurred about 2:51 a.m. Monday — almost 12 hours before the girl was shot. The second shooting was discovered during the police investigation into the reported assault.

The 17-year-old shooting victim remains at University of Mississippi Medical Center. Her condition was unavailable. The 15-year-old remains at the Warren County Youth Detention Center pending the results of a certification hearing held Tuesday in Youth Court. Their names have not been released.

Police responding to a call of a shooting at 1001 First East St. about 2 p.m. Monday arrived to find the 17-year-old girl in one of the apartments shot in the neck.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Merit Health River Region and later transferred to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

The case remains under investigation.

In other cases:

• Roderick Davis, 34, 700 Sherman Ave., was arrested about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Vicksburg Police Department on a warrant charging him with two counts of sale of cocaine. Davis was arrested after coming to the police station on an unrelated matter.

• A 2015 Chevrolet Cruze parked in the 1400 block if Realty Street was reported taken about 8:19 a.m. Tuesday. It was later recovered at Sherman Avenue School.

• A black tool box with assorted tools, a Craftsman tool box with tools, Winchester knife, Elf knife, a set of jumper cables and a tackle box with baits were reported taken about 8:44 a.m. from a 2002 Toyota Tundra pickup parked in the 1400 block of Division Street.

• A 2015 Nissan Versa parked in the 2600 block of Oak Street was reported taken about 1:04 p.m. It was rcovered about an hour later on Elton Drive.
