Starting Friday night, Vicksburg teenagers will have someplace else to go.
The Teen Hangout, 3420 Wisconsin Ave. Suite 1, opens at 6 p.m. Friday. The club is next door to GymSouth in the same building as the Debra Franco School of Dance. The Hangout’s hours will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $7.
“My friend, Jessica Norris, and I got together,” said Ann Mullins, who co-owns the business. “We both have teenagers who are always looking for something to do. We were trying to do something for teens to do — hangout, have fun and be affordable.
“They come on a Friday night or a Saturday night from 6 to 10 o’clock, they pay $7 and they play the whole time they’re there. No other fees. Everything is free play.”
The hangout will feature pool tables, Ping-Pong, foosball and video gaming systems.
“We have multiple couches and an area for refreshments or board games,” she said. “It’s pretty much all games. Everything is gaming.”
The Hangout will have multiple charging ports for cell phones, and feature some of the newly released and the traditional video games.
“We plan, as the games are released, to get them so people can come try them out,” she said.
The club will feature six 50-inch flat screen TVs, she said, adding that after the club has been in operation, they will ask the teens about their interests and what activities they would like to see.
Mullins said she and Norris had friends and family members to the Teen Hangout last week for a test run “to get all the bugs worked out.”
“This Friday will be the first true opening,” Mullins said adding they expect a slow start.
“We probably won’t get busy until school starts with word of mouth,” she said.
