Motivational speaker Ron Clark will be the special guest for the Vicksburg Warren School District’s 2018 teacher convocation 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Vicksburg Convention Center.
“This is an event that we do every year to welcome our teachers back and kickoff another school year,” school district spokeswoman Christi Kilroy said.
“Friday, we will celebrate our achievements and successes of last year and set the tone for a very positive 2018-19 (school year).”
School Superintendent Chad Shealy, Mayor George Flaggs Jr., Warren County Board of Supervisors Richard George and school Board of Trustees President Brian Pratt will address the event, which will also feature entertainment by a combined choir of students from across the school district, and a combined drum line.
“It’s almost like a big pep rally for the teachers,” Kilroy said.
Clark, who is known to many as “America’s Educator,” and the 2000 Disney American Teacher of the Year, will address the teachers about methods of inspiring students in the classroom.
He is the founder of The Ron Clark Academy, nonprofit middle school located in Southeast Atlanta, Georgia. The Academy has received both national and international recognition for its success in educating students with academic rigor, passion, and creativity balanced by a strict code of discipline.
