Embry powers PCA to victory

Hannah Embry had 10 strikeouts and allowed one run in seven innings, and also doubled and scored a run to lead Porter’s Chapel Academy’s softball team to a 4-1 victory over Cathedral on Monday.

Hannah Ashley also doubled and scored a run for the Lady Eagles (2-3), while Carlye Smith drove in two runs.

Embry scattered five hits and two walks in her complete-game victory. She retired 13 of the last 15 batters she faced.

PCA beat Cathedral for the second time this season and snapped a two-game losing streak. It will play at the Jackson Victors Thursday at 6 p.m.

East Rankin 14, St. Aloysius 0

St. Aloysius’ softball team continued its rocky start to the season on Monday, losing 14-0 to East Rankin Academy.

East Rankin scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning and finished the game in four innings via the mercy rule.

Alyssa Gordan had a single in the fourth inning for St. Al’s only hit.

The Lady Flashes have been outscored 29-0 in their first two games against East Rankin and Tri-County. They’ll play again Aug. 14 at 6:30 p.m., against crosstown rival Porter’s Chapel Academy at the Betty Hearn Softball Complex.
