St. Al soccer, VHS softball score big wins

St. Aloysius settled a score with Park Place Christian on Monday.

Cameron Mathis made 13 saves, including two during a penalty kick shootout, and St. Al rallied from a two-goal deficit at halftime to beat Park Place in an early-season girls’ soccer matchup.

Park Place beat St. Al three times last season, including a 3-2 victory in the MAIS Class AAA semifinals. Park Place went on to win the Class AAA championship.

On Monday, Park Place raced out to a 2-0 lead at halftime before the Lady Flashes rallied to tie it by the end of regulation. Each team scored once more in overtime to send it to the shootout, which St. Al won 4-3.

Anna Katherine Beauchamp scored three goals and Meg McDaniel had two for the Lady Flashes (1-1-1 overall, 1-0 District 3-AAA).

St. Al and Park Place will play one more time in this year’s regular season, Sept. 24 at Strickland Field in Bovina.

Raymond in softball

Jazmine Miller and Eylia Walker drove in three runs apiece, and Vicksburg High routed Raymond 20-3 in a slow-pitch softball game on Monday.

Miller went 2-for-3 with a triple, and Walker also had two hits. Dha-Niya Lockridge went 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI for the Missy Gators, who scored seven runs in the first inning, four in the second and nine more in the third.

Vicksburg will return to action Thursday, at Cleveland Central at 6:15 p.m.
