Faye Rutland Lancaster

Faye Rutland Lancaster, lifelong resident of Vicksburg, peacefully passed away on Aug. 17, 2018, surrounded by family, at River Region Hospital. She was 90 years old.

Faye was an extremely devout Christian, being a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church for over 62 years. During those years, she was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, treasurer, member of Frances Hawthorne Ladies Circle, and held positions on multiple church committees. In the tradition of her generation, she loved her family and rendered personal care to many of her elderly family members by bringing them into her home and providing comfort for their last days. Faye also graduated from Jett School in 1946 with the honor of valedictorian.

She was predeceased by her parents, Preston H. Whittington and Marie Foreman Raines; her husbands, William D. Rutland and Lawrence Lee “Lank” Lancaster; and her sisters, Mary Denise Megar, JoAnn Fuller and Nelda Johnson.

She is survived by her sister, Kathy Ferguson of Vicksburg; daughters, Debbie Way of Vicksburg, and Amy Danielle Thomas of Pearl; as well as stepdaughter, Linda Gibson of Tallulah; granddaughters, Courtney Stephens Kelley of Vicksburg, and Kaitlin Sullivan of Brookhaven; grandchildren, Carley Pickering of Vicksburg, and William Sullivan and Ainslee Sullivan of Brookhaven; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, at Glenwood Funeral Home with a visitation starting at 9 a.m. with a chapel service immediately following at 10 a.m. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Bob Ford and the Rev. Don Williams.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Charles Johnson of Madison, Richard Johnson of Vicksburg, Andrew Johnson of Brandon, David McBee of Anderson, South Carolina, and Rhea Fuller of Vicksburg, and a family friend, Kevin Sanders of Vicksburg.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church, and the John F. and Mary Lou Halpin Family.
