Man arrested for shooting into occupied home

A Vicksburg man remains in the Warren County Jail after his arrest Wednesday for shooting at an occupied home on National Street on May 13.

Lt. Johnnie Edwards said the arrest of Dikembe Jose Stewart, 23, 900 Wabash St., came after an investigation into the shooting that indicated he had fired the shots at the home. No one was injured. Stewart’s bond was set at $100,000.

He said police arrested Stewart at the county jail, where he was being held without bond accused of a May 15 shooting, where he was accused of shooting into an occupied car on Wisconsin Street.

In another case, Jimmy Lee Lyons, 33, 2428 Halls Ferry Road, was charged with burglary of a residence and burglary of an auto. Lyons was also served with several city misdemeanor warrants.

He was being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.

Vicksburg police made the following arrests Wednesday and Thursday:

  • Alexis Deshay Wallace, 26, 711 Belva Drive, was arrested about 8:01 a.m. Wednesday at the Vicksburg Police Department on two counts of contempt of court.
  • James David Whatley, 35, 216 John Glen,Natchez, was served with warrants Wednesday at the police department.
  • A warrant was served Wednesday on Jayla Sharie Valentine, 19, 3115 Washington St.
  • Kacy Nicole Smith, 19, 2016 Sky Farm Ave., was arrested about 2:48 p.m. Wednesday at the police department on a charge of contempt of court.
  • Daphne Laverne Sanders, 58, 2115 Martin Luther King Blvd., was arrested about 11:04 p.m. Wednesday in the 2100 block of Martin Luther King on a charge of shoplifting.
  • Jerome Wayne Jones, 50, 2053 Heather Drive, was arrested about 12:15 a.m. Thursday at Clay and Cherry streets on a charge of second-offense shoplifting.
  • A warrant was served Thursday on Joshua Allen Dent, 26, 937 Bowmar Ave.
  • John Henry Hursey, 44, 1323 Alvin Geiger, Douglas, Georgia, was arrested about 1:02 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 61 South and Cain Ridge Road on charges of speeding, having a suspended driver’s license and having no insurance.
  • Jonathan Bernard Williams, 21, 4409 Gibson Road, was arrested about 1:27 p.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of Mississippi 27 on charges of having no insurance, having a suspended driver’s license and reckless driving.
  • Layla Denise Parker-Jones, 32, 1907Cherry St., was arrested about 3:33 p.m. Thursday in the 2200 block of Clay Street on a charge of embezzlement.
  • Antonia Coleman, 20, 904 Griffin St., Tallulah, Louisiana, was arrested about 10:56 p.m. Thursday in the 3100 block of Halls Ferry Road on charges of domestic assault and violating a protective order.
