Funeral services for Joseph “Joe” Jefferson Jr., are to be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, in the chapel of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with Bro. Johnny Gilmore III, officiating; interment shall follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.

There will be a visitation held on Friday from 6-7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Joseph Jefferson Jr., passed away on Aug. 29, in the Shady Lawn Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. He was 87. 

He was retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District having worked in the athletic department. He had attended the Triumphant M. B. Church. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Agnes Passmore; his wife, Thelma Garrett Jefferson; his sister, Mary Smith; and his sons, James Jefferson and David Garrett.

He is survived by his sons, Donald Garrett of Vicksburg and Alvin Garrett of Cartersville, Illinois; his seven daughters, Patricia Garrett Gilmore of Jackson, Shirley Swartz, Sandra Williams and Brenda Reed, all of Vicksburg; Lucy Jones of Columbus, Georgia, Penny Woodbury of Raymond, and Susan Neil of Cordova, Tennessee; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
