Vicksburg animal control officers are continuing their search for a black and white pit bull reportedly involved in an attack Wednesday on a woman in the 500 block of Locust Street.
The dog and a brown and white pit bull were involved in the Wednesday morning attack, which sent the woman, who was not identified, to the Merit Health River Region emergency room. Animal control officers caught the brown and white dog about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Jefferson Street area.
Animal control supervisor Kacie Lindsey said no one has stepped forward to claim the animal.
She said Thursday afternoon authorities served a search warrant at the house where the black and white dog was believed to be kept, but did not find it.
“We are going to continue looking for the dog,” she said.
The attack was the second reported encounter between a downtown resident and the dogs this week.
Bertram Hayes-Davis said Monday he was walking his dog by Christ Episcopal Church on Main Street about 7:30 p.m. when the animals came his way.
Lindsey said she told city public works and utilities employees to be watching for it, and she called the Vicksburg Police Department and asked that officers look out for the dog.
Lindsey said if anyone sees the dog, they should call 911.
“Do not approach or try to catch this animals,” she said, “it is very aggressive.”
