The Vicksburg Beautification Committee has teamed up with the city of Vicksburg and Waste Management in an effort to make Vicksburg a cleaner and more pleasant place.

The organizations have organized the third annual Dumpster Day, where individuals can bring different objects they may not be able to dispose of in their own trash cans.

Vicksburg’s Dumpster Day will be on Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with drop-off sites at North Washington Street/Pittman Road, U.S. 61 South/Airport Road, Halls Ferry Ball Park (Bazinsky Road parking lot 2 entrance) and Baldwin Ferry Road (Warren Central Junior High School Parking Lot).

“This event gives citizens an opportunity to bring their trash out instead of dumping it on the side of the road or in an abandoned lot,” said Lionel Johnson, event chairman and a member of the Vicksburg Beautification Committee, said.

“It cuts down on trash everywhere and it is paid for by the city so it’s a great opportunity for Vicksburg.”

City of Vicksburg employees will be present to assist residents with the disposal of items.

Items such as paint, appliances or equipment with freon, old gas tanks, batteries, computers or computer monitors, televisions, fax machines, fluorescent bulbs or any type of oil, will not be accepted.

Tires will be accepted and picked up by Warren County employees.

Organizers believe as though the dumpster day is important to keep the city beautiful not only for tourists but also for its residents, and are considering making it a biannual event in the future.

“I hope that the community takes advantage of this event and comes to dump their trash,” Johnson said.
