Benefit softball tourney

The Vicksburg Girls Softball Association and Rip Tide travel team will host the Strike Out Child Abuse youth softball tournament Oct. 13 at Halls Ferry Park and the Betty Hearn Softball Complex.

The tournament is for girls travel teams in the 10U and 12U age divisions. All proceeds from registration fees, admissions and concessions will be donated to The Exchange Club of Vicksburg Child and Parent Center. The CAP Center, opened in 1985, helps families in need as they deal with child abuse and neglect.

Admission to the one-day tournament is $6 per person. Children under 5 are admitted free.

Clear Creek Ladies report

On Wednesday the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association held its final Retirees Scramble of the year. Judy McKnight, Larry Cook, Brad Heisler and Reed Moesher made up the winning team. Second place went to Emily Bonelli, Frank Conner, Chris Miller and Ronnie McGowan. Karen Carroll, Robert Baudo, Eddie Fowler and David Wright placed third.

Lynne Brush and Reed Moesher hit the longest drives. Closest-To-Pin awards went to Emily Bonelli, Lynne Brush, Larry Cook and Mike Renfroe. Karen Carroll and Wayne Jones made chip-ins.

Red Carpet Bowl Golf

The 2018 Red Carpet Bowl Invitational golf tournament is scheduled for Oct. 13 and 14 at the Vicksburg Country Club. The format is a three-man scramble/shamble for the top two flights, and a scramble in both rounds for all other flights. The entry fee is $375 per team, and there are cash payouts of $1,000 for first place, $600 for second place and $300 for third.

Prizes for the longest drive and closest to the hole will also be awarded each day.

Over the River Run

The 30th annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run and walk across the Old Mississippi River Bridge, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 13 at 8 a.m. at the Mississippi Welcome Center on Washington Street. The registration fee is $30 for the 5-mile races, or $15 for the children’s 1-mile fun run for children 10-and-under.

Spooky Sprint 5K

Registration is now open for the Spooky Sprint 5K. The 5-kilometer run and walk, 1-mile fun run and carnival is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27 in downtown Vicksburg and is a fundraiser for Vicksburg Catholic Schools. The race will begin and end at BancorpSouth, 820 South Street. Runners and walkers are invited to compete in Halloween costumes for the lighthearted race. The registration fee for the 5K is $25, or $15 for the fun run for children 15 and under. To register online, visit spookysprint5k.webconnex.com/registration18.
