Grover Walter “Sandy” Sanders Jr.

Grover Walter “Sandy” Sanders Jr., died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at Merit Health River Region Medical Center. He was 95.

He was the son of the late Grover W. Sanders Sr., and Estella Freeman Sanders. Mr. Sanders was a veteran of World War II, serving in Company B of the 106th Engineer Combat Battalion, 31st Infantry Division of the Mississippi National Guard. He worked for Mumford Engineering of Jackson and retired from Filbert Corporation as a refrigeration engineer. Mr. Sanders was a member of Vicksburg Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Myers Sanders; son, Grover W. “Sandy” Sanders, III; brother, Joseph “JW” Sanders; and sisters, Mildred Forsman and Hazel Bounds.

He is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Wilson (Tommy) of Utica, and Clair Denise Sherman of Vicksburg; two sisters, Alyce Vincent of Southaven, and Ila Mae Sharp of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, George Ward, Robert Wilson and Steven Sanders; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2018, at the Vicksburg Church of Christ, 3333 North Frontage Road, with Larry Macomber, Wade Hammack and Clyde Redmon officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the hour of service. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, with military honors.

Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearer will be Brooks Boggan.
