A 21-year-old man from Delhi, Louisiana, was severely injured Saturday after jumping about 40 feet off the Louisiana side of the Interstate 20 Mississippi River bridge and landed feet first on solid ground.
Vicksburg Fire Chief Craig Danczyk said firefighters received the call about the jumper about 11 a.m.
“At first, we didn’t know where he jumped,” he said. “We later learned he had jumped on the Louisiana side.”
He said firefighters and paramedics got to the unidentified man, who was laying under the bridge and provided medical care to him until paramedics with Northeast Louisiana Ambulance arrived. The man was taken by ambulance to the I-20 West weigh station, where he was transferred to helicopter and flown to University of Mississippi Medical Center. Information on his condition was unavailable.
Attempts to contact the Madison Parish, Louisiana, Sheriff’s Office for further information and the man’s name were unsuccessful.
