Michele Virginia Hullum Hernandez, a native of Dutchtown, gained her angel wings on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the age of 30. Born on April 11, 1988, Michele graduated from Dutchtown High School in 2007 and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2011. Michele was an active member of the Dutchtown Sound and Color Guard team and the Ascension Parish 4-H program. She was honored in 2006 as an LPB Young Hero. As a member of Dutchtown Baptist Church, she organized the car seat ministry, chili cook-off, and sewing for a cause.

Michele affected people wherever she was with her infectious smile and never give up attitude. Her courage and strength will never leave us. She was an absolute light to any room you were in and never let Cystic Fibrosis define her. Her double-lung transplant in 2016 gave her a renewed strength in life.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Hernandez; son, Joel-Luis, parents William Ted and Jo Ann Hullum; sister, Jennifer Hullum; and maternal grandmother, Clara Wyatt of Elkton, Maryland. Michele is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Jones C. Wyatt of West Grove, Pennsylvania, and paternal grandparents Jerrol and Edith Hullum of Vicksburg.
