Candidates for local, state and federal offices will meet the voters and answer questions at a forum Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Warren County Courthouse.

The forum sponsored by the Vicksburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Blacks in Government and the Vicksburg Branch of the NAACP will be in the Circuit Courtroom on the second floor of the Courthouse.

Similar forums were held for state and county races in 2015, city races in 2017, and for a special race in 2017 to fill the unexpired term of South Ward Alderman Alex Monsour who resigned his House District 54 seat after being elected to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

“The format will be the same as before,” said forum coordinator Gertrude Young. “Each candidate will have two minutes to talk about their platform, and then they will take questions from the audience.”

Young said questions to the candidates will be submitted in writing to program coordinators who will screen them before they are asked.

The list of candidates already committed to appear include U.S. Rep. Benny Thompson (D-Mississippi), Circuit Court candidates Toni Terrett and Angela Carpenter, County Court candidates Marcie Southerland and Richard Johnson, state Appeals Court candidate Debra McDonald, state House District 85 candidate Jo Ann Smith, and constable candidates Mario Grady and Troy Kimble.
